Bauska Castle

This medieval Livonian Order fortress was built between two rivers in the mid 15th century. The New Castle (the residence of the Duke of Kurzeme) was added in the late 16th century, and large earthen fortifications were built in the 17th-18th centuries. The medieval fortress ruins, a viewing tower, and an exhibit about the history, study, and restoration of the castle are open to tourists, as is the New Castle, which is currently being restored.
